The essence of this development is founded in the community and their drive to change Scotswood back into the thriving area it once was. New Tyne West Development Company (NTWDC) is in constant dialogue with key community members as the development aims to blend the existing with the new to create a holistic and inclusive place to live.
Therefore, the community has been consulted on all elements of the development before and during the planning application process. This consultative process will continue during all phases of the development.
Newcastle City Council has ring fenced funding to support the development of the new housing scheme. This includes areas such as investment to redevelop and improve the local primary school, the redevelopment of Hodgkin Park and highways improvements to areas of the existing community.
Employment, Training and Enterprise
It is a key aim of NTWDC that job creation and employment opportunities are provided to local people and businesses where possible.
The Contract imposes requirements on both developers to provide opportunities for local employment and engagement of locally based sub-contractors. This process has already commenced with the appointment of a number of locally based apprentices.
These outputs are being supported by both NTWDC with the assistance and support of the Council’s Local Economic Development Team and partners.
